At present, two types of copyright are applied on Cairn:

General conditions

The online distribution of most of the articles available on Cairn, whether or not they are offered free of charge, is governed by our terms of use. They are thus reserved under copyright and intellectual property laws, for the whole world. As such and in accordance with the provisions of the code of intellectual property, only private use is allowed.

Therefore, the user may not copy, modify, distribute, transmit, broadcast, duplicate, publish, license, transfer or exploit in any other way, the information on the site.

Creative Commons BY-NC license

Some publications are exceptions to the above rule, as their publisher has opted for an online distribution under a CC-BY-NC license. They can be identified by the presence of the following button on the site or on the first page of the PDF file of the article, which links to the license itself:

CC-BY-NC

This is for example the case of the journal Flux, for which the user has the authorization to share and adapt the articles as long as they specify the author (attribution), but for which commercial use is not authorized.
